Boulder River Wilderness Day Hike 4/23/2011

Lauren and I decided to head out on a short and easy adventure into the highly used Boulder River Wilderness to take in some beautiful waterfalls and river scenery. I promised her that our first hike would be an easy one, and it really couldn't have been easier.

As we pulled into the parking area we were passing cars along side the road for awhile before we actually reached the trail-head... We knew it would be busy, and luckily we were starting this trip later in the day so we were able to park right next to the trail-head.

We unloaded and headed down the old road bed until it turned into an actual trail. After a while we found some faint way trails that went cross country and eventually found there way to the river. It's amazing how the beauty of a river tucked away from civilization can just sweep you away with amazement.

This is a good representation of 90% of the trails grade all the way to the first 2 falls. Can we say flat.
After running around and climbing around on the banks of the Boulder River we headed back up the hill to the main trail and continued along the flat path to the first trickle of a waterfall. Near the first little cascade of water there is a trail that skirts down the hill and through the bushes to the river bank where we again headed down to take in the beauty.

After we were done taking pictures and eyeballing the rapids, and dreaming of playing on them in my kayak... We tried to connect along the river bank to the second and larger Boulder Falls. There is a way, but in the sense of keeping it an extremely easy hike as I promised, we opted to not take the bushwhacked trail that quickly shot up and down the hill side to get around a few cottage sized rocks along the embankment of the river to the falls.

We headed back to the well defined trail that led back to the main trail and walked a few hundred feet to take in the beauty of the falls before heading to the base of the falls.

Overall to get to the first 2 falls it is a super short and quick hike that can be done by just about anyone with two feet. Be forewarned this is a heavily used area and is not a place to go if you are expecting solitude.

Boulder River Trail

Sunday May 3, 2009 my brother Aaron, Elizabeth and I went for an easy to moderate hike of 9 miles round trip along the Boulder River Trail in the Boulder River Wilderness within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The trail had a mild elevation gain with the mild up and down terrain typical of river valley hiking. There was a couple views of waterfalls along the way, a couple views of the mountains, a lot of views of the river and of course tons of forest views.
