Hurricane Ridge Motorcycle Ride 9/12/2009

Saturday I went with my Dad along with Dave and Nancy on a motorcycle trip to Hurricane Ridge for the day. The motorcycle I normal drive is down for now so I rode on the back of my Dad's Goldwing. We started off in the morning and headed up to Belfair to get breakfast. The first place we stopped didn't start serving food until 10 or 11 am, but the bar opened bright and early... When we were trying to leave another Goldwing pulled in and was chatting about the bikes. We crossed the street to the other diner which was open, and got bombarded by an old man who had owned an older Goldwing and was reliving old times. After breakfast we got on the road and headed up across the Hood Canal bridge towards Highway 101 in route to Port Angeles. It's a fairly scenic drive with great views to the mountains and several bays within the Puget Sound along the way. I don't think I've ever not been driving on this stretch of road so it was a very nice relief to rubber neck around and take in the view and get some pictures along the way.

We stopped to take a look at the Olympic National Park visitor center on the way into the park. After the visitor center we headed off to enter the park and head up the road to Hurricane Ridge. Last year they repaved the road to Hurricane Ridge so it was smooth sailing after we reached the park boundry. We slowly winded our way up to the visitor center at the ridge.

At the park entrance.

After we arrived we walked around for awhile and than checked out the store and visitor center. On the way down we saw a dog tired deer slowly walking up alongside the road, it looked like it was about to keel over of a heart attack...

After we got down the highway we swung through Applebees for dinner and than we started the long drive home at dusk. The visor on the helmet I was using was tinted and it made it really hard to stay awake after eating so much good food.
