Middle Middle Section of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Class III/IV 7/10/2011

Epic barely even starts to describe Sunday's adventure. So, maybe I've been out of commission for a little while but I can still paddle with a bum knee thankfully. Sunday was a personal step-up for me. I got a "new" boat and took it out for it's first full section run on my first trip down the middle-middle. The new boat is a lot looser, easier to turn, and auto stern squirts on me in the rapids. Is this a bad thing, not a chance. The whole point of buying a used Wavesport EZG 50 was to start learning to run bigger rivers and learn to play at the same time. It was definitely a little eerie when the bow raises and the boat starts spinning on the tail while you are traversing through your first class III/IV rapids, but at least I know it should be easy to start learning how to intentionally stern squirt the boat.

Anyhow we took off from the upper put-in at the concrete bridge and paddled all the way to tanner. Here's the video and I hope you enjoy! :)

The point at which you know you are screwed, and praying you hit your roll so you don't have to swim...
Getting a little crooked.

High brace out for the save!

SF Snoqualmie 5/19/2011 at 536cfs

Josh and I hit the South Fork of the Snoqualmie from Twin Falls State Park to the 436th St. Bridge again. This is becoming one of my favorite beginner runs. It's action packed even at lower levels but there are some wood hazards to watch out for, but nothing major at the moment. The shallowness can be touble-some for rolling and being a newb. This run was my first swim since last November. Josh led us through a nice little hole and I made a few mistakes. I didn't lean forward and paddle like a mad-man so my nose dived and sucked under as I got off balance, and I didn't get a good hip snap in while I was bracing and the hole just sucked me over. Somehow my paddle caught a rock funny and I lost it while I was under so I didn't even get to try and roll out of it. So Sunday it's time to head to the pool and practice my roll, then off to the Club Stretch to start practicing my roll in moving water again. I honestly haven't practiced rolling since last fall...

We hiked up the trail a little bit and put-in on the sandy beach above the first set of rapids and headed on down the river. The Waskowitz Canyon is really what makes this run shine, before you reach the canyon it's pretty much a real easy float, but the canyon is what makes this trip really shine. The non-stop Class II/II+ action of boulder garden rapids is straight up awesome for a newb like me!

South Fork of the Snoqualmie River 5/14/2011

Today I went on a WKC run of the Twin Falls to 436th St Bridge on the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River. It was a blast! and I'm definitely looking forward to running it at higher water levels.

The Club Stretch of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie 4/29/2011

Josh finally got me back on the waterv after 6 months of being land locked for a nice easy Class II section on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. It was a blast! I'm so glad to be back in the kayak. Kayaking is so addicting, all it took was another sampling and I can't get enough.
